Annual meeting of the UfM Energy Platforms

The 2nd Mediterranean Green Week, convened by the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), took place in Brussels from 24 to 27 June 2025. The event aimed to foster collaboration on climate adaptation and mitigation, environmental sustainability, resilient infrastructure, the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems (WEFE) Nexus, and an inclusive green energy transition across the Euro-Mediterranean region. This second edition brought together representatives from all 43 UfM Member States, along with civil society, youth, experts, and private sector actors, to advance shared solutions to the region’s pressing environmental and climate challenges. Through high-level discussions, expert panels, and capacity-building workshops, the event supported policy dialogue, strengthened cross-sectoral cooperation, promoted innovative and gender-responsive practices, and reinforced the science-policy interface for a more resilient and sustainable Mediterranean.

As part of the program, UfM Regional Platforms meetings were held on 26 June, focusing on the respective Work Program activities of the three UfM working groups on energy, addressing electricity markets, renewable energy, energy efficiency, and natural gas in the Mediterranean region.

In this context, OMEC’s Director General spoke at the session titled:
“The Trans-Mediterranean Energy and Clean Tech Cooperation Initiative (T-MED): Strengthening Partnerships for the Energy Transition in the Mediterranean Region.”
The discussion led to an enhanced understanding of the T-MED initiative and how it can be supported through the broader Mediterranean cooperation framework. Participants exchanged views on next steps for operationalizing T-MED through inclusive structures and stakeholder engagement, and provided recommendations for using the UfM’s existing coordination tools to monitor implementation and foster synergies.
