Egypt-EU High-Level Conference in Cairo
The European Union (EU) and the Egyptian Government co-hosted the “Egypt Sustainable Energy Outlook 2040” conference at Cairo’s Manial Palace, held on 10 January 2026. Under the theme “Cooperation for Shared Prosperity,” the summit solidified the strategic energy partnership between the two regions, focusing on long-term policy, grid stability, and large-scale green investment.
OMEC’s General Director moderated a dedicated session on gas. The session, titled “Turning Up the Heat: Gas in the Spotlight of the Energy Transition”, highlighted Egypt’s growing role as a strategic energy hub in the Eastern Mediterranean. Discussions focused on cooperation between Egypt and the European Union, addressing gas markets, regional integration, and the role of gas as a transition fuel, alongside the increasing deployment of renewable energy and strengthened regional cooperation under frameworks such as the East Mediterranean Gas Forum.
