Green Energy Technologies Committee Meeting

On December 2nd, 2025, the Organisation Méditerranéenne de l’Énergie et du Climat (OMEC) held the fall meeting of its Green Energy Technologies Committee to discuss the programme of work, on-going and future initiatives.

A central theme of the discussions was the presentation of the study on Sustainable mobility in the Mediterranean: Part I – decarbonizing the maritime sector. The analysis highlighted the major trends shaping maritime transport in the Mediterranean, including the growth of maritime trade in both volume and fleet size and the Mediterranean countries role, the key global and regional regulations governing and impact the sector, the sharp increase in CO2 emissions from maritime activities in the Mediterranean, and current as well as future scenarios for alternative fuels.

Updates on the programme of work and other activities were presented, including the on-going EU-funded MSA-Trough project, which is developing innovative molten salt-based solar concentrators, the recently completed study on the export potential of renewable electricity and hydrogen from North Africa to Europe, the new proposals submitted, future activities, webinars and the contribution to OMEC GEM magazine, which will be released in January 2026.
