OME participates in a MENA-EU High-Level Exchange
On 15 January 2023, on the occasion of the IRENA (International Renewable Energy Agency) General Assembly in Abu Dhabi, UAE, Marco Piredda, vice chair of OME’s Energy Transition Committee, participated in a MENA-EU High-Level Exchange organised by the German Federal Government and IRENA. The meeting brought together countries from Europe and MENA region as well as regional and international organizations in the format of a high-level exchange to prepare the upcoming MEFED 2023.
Building on the successful first MENA-Europe Future Energy Dialogue (MEFED) and the momentum for strengthened energy cooperation between the MENA region and Europe, the High-Level Exchange had two concrete objectives:
• Discuss the establishment of a MEFED Project Acceleration Initiative (PAI) focused on supporting the implementation of strategically important decarbonization projects in Europe and the MENA region.
• Identify strategically important projects in Europe and the MENA region in the areas of renewable energy and green hydrogen, energy efficiency and demand-side management, and interconnection.
